Welcome to Disabled Surfers in the Bass Coast
We love to lend a hand and help surfers in our community with a disability to be able to get into the water and hit the surf.
Here at the Disabled Surfers Association Bass Coast – (DSABC) – we have three goals each year and they are:
- To ‘Make Someone’s Summer’ by putting lots of ‘Smiles on Dials’ at each of our events on the gorgeous Inverloch Surf Beach.
- We aim to provide our community members with greater access to the beaches all year round for all abilities.
- We also aim to bring to our local town a wonderful event that unites all the community to bring a special day to all those involved.
If you would like to be involved and get a great BUZZ out of a day you should come along and see what all the fuss is about! We love to see everyone come along and find out what the secret is to a truly amazing and memorable day!

Our Last Event went like this….
The Inverloch Event in February this year couldn’t have started off to a more perfect start with a glorious 28 degree day. With the warm water rolling in forming perfect waves and a high tide which helped us make the beach access for our surfers even better than the average on the beautiful Inverloch coastline.
Before we knew it we had 180 volunteers joining us and took on the roles as needed. We had volunteers of all ages wanting to help in the water and also lots to take roles out of the water too.
We had 85 participants join us for a surf and with the water at its perfect temperature and some great waves rolling in we had a brilliant day for surfing. We ran 8 lanes of surfers which gave each surfer enough time to really get to enjoy the surf, sun and lots of cheering and clapping!
Everyone had an amazing day and we received over 150 new likes on Facebook which does an amazing job of getting out event known out in the community and we have had lots of comments from people who attended saying what a great day it was and connecting with each other.
We dedicated our event this year to Sally Messer. At our inaugural event last year Sally Messer was the first one in the water to take on the surf. Unfortunately, this year she wasn’t well enough to attend. But her brother came to lend a hand with some friends and we sent her home an Inverloch tee and some photos of the day. We look forward to welcoming her back at our next event in February 2019.
Please see the video: Making someone Summer to see Sally letting everyone know about the time she has when surfing with the DSA.
We also had a very special guest attend the day to show his support and that was none other than Elvis Presley from The Variety Club of Australia. The Variety club all turned up in their vintage cars with 50’s music adding some great atmosphere to the beach and a great positive vibe at our registration tents! They arrived early in the morning with their donation of two brand new wheel chairs to use at our DSA Inverloch surfing events.
From the Bass Coast Committee, we say ‘thank-you’
With the support again of the Mornington Peninsula team we will be running two more events next year.
The dates are the
9th of February and 23rd of March, 2019

Volunteers in Victoria – Working with Children’s Checks
We would like to let all our wonderful volunteers know that at this years event it will be preferable if volunteers could organise themselves their ‘Working with Children’s Checks’ for our event. We would love to see all volunteers turn up with their ‘Working With Children’s Check’ cards and show them on the day.
This is a quick and free process online with a visit to the Post Office to have your photo taken and your card will be sent out in the mail within a few weeks. Please add us as your volunteer organisation – Disabled Surfers Association Inc. when filling in the form online and put our address. See the link here: http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au
